This image is one of the first Jack took when he arrived in Applecross, back in December 2011. It is a view familiar to many who live in, and visit Applecross, of Applecross Bay from the end of the Bealach above Keppoch. People often stop at the passing place at the road corner in the photo and take their own pictures from here, but this image is taken from further back, off the road. Jack wanted to have the actual place that the photo is normally taken from in the image to try and capture the full experience of being there and the feeling of coming home to Applecross. It was this image that inspired Jack to put down roots here and set up the Applecross Photographic Gallery and it is easy to see why; with the way a light ray has shone down from the winter clouds and illuminated the bay.
 
Applecross Bay from the Bealach has a special place in the gallery for another reason. The spruce plantation in the picture is surrounded by a fence to protect the trees from deer and livestock. The posts in the fence were milled at the old sawmill in Applecross, from larch wood grown in Applecross, at the time the spruce was planted in the 70s. This plantation, and others like it in the area, has been harvested recently and new native woodland planted in its place. At the gallery, we have reclaimed the fence posts to make larch frames which are available for many of our canvases. Jack had no idea when he first took the photo that this would be a future project and there is something incredibly rewarding about being able to frame this picture using materials which you can see in the image. We like to say it is framing itself!

All the canvases are handmade at our gallery in Applecross so that we can ensure the highest standards of quality. The images are printed using a brand new 12 colour large format printer using archival inks to guarantee there will be no fading over time. We use a luxurious 280gsm canvas which, when printed on, boasts excellent sharpness, definition and UV stability too. Canvas is a fantastic option for all types of wall, including plasterboard, as it is very light so can easily be hung from the single brass hanger we fix on the back. It can be hung using Command strips as long as the correct weight allowance is adhered to. Alternatively, a simple picture hook in the wall will certainly be more than sufficient. 
 
Maybe you live in or around Applecross, maybe it is your home away from home or perhaps it is simply on your bucket list to visit, either way there is no denying the sense of peace and tranquillity this image evokes. We truly believe it will bring a feeling of homecoming to any room it hangs in.
