As many of you know I have a fantastic view from my gallery. On 18th November 2018 it was so amazing that I could not keep my eyes away from the window. As time passed the sunset became even more stunning as the after-glow appeared over the Cuillins. I wanted to go home to get my tripod, but I knew it was the perfect moment and it wouldn’t last. The stepladder from the gallery was used instead! I placed it on the road outside, hoping that a car wouldn’t come and combined four 13 second exposures to create the image.
As each exposure was so long, the small ‘specks’ in the sky have turned slightly oblong with the rotation of the earth, which is most obvious with Saturn, seen left of centre.
In late November and early December of 2018, we launched a campaign to find a title for the new picture. We had over 120 suggestions made at £2.50 per name raising in excess of £300 for the UK Sepsis Trust. The winning submission was from Roddy Maclean of Shore Street for his poetic suggestion ‘Soraidh an t-Solais’ meaning ‘The Farewell of the Day’s Light’. It was our first Gaelic name at the gallery.
